How to avoid neck strain

I wrote my entire thesis on this laptop without neck strain!

You'll recall that earlier this year I was getting a lot of stiff necks, and these started when I began writing a lot of papers on my laptop. So when it came time to write my thesis, I modified my desktop setup. I raised the height of the laptop (in the pic above, I just used my backpack) and plugged in a separate keyboard/mouse. This provided an extra degree of freedom for my neck and shoulders, and allowed me to spend several weeks pecking away without getting a stiff neck.

I bring it up because it's hard enough to write a thesis without a stiff neck!
